I am not sure what has happened but the nav system in our 100 has stopped working and says 'disk not found'. I checked the drive under the passenger seat and pushed the open button but nothing comes out. It is as if the disk is missing or the drive is not working. What I need to know is with the ignition on and the nav. System running can you feel the drive working?

Also how is the 'open' button on the drive supposed to function? Mine does nothing. Any other cluses as to the normal behavior of this unit? Thanks in advance! UPDATE: I ran through the diagnostic menu accessed by holding the 'info' button down with the ignition on and parking brake on and then turning the parking light switch on and off three times. Everything in the menu appeared ok but 'no disk detected' still came up.
The GPS gave me an accurate location, climate control works, radio and cd changer work but the navigation system and the maintenance menu would not come up.all I get is the 'no disk detected' error. So I go to the Nav ECU under the passenger seat and try to eject the disk.nothing. I disconnect the three plugs from the back of the unit.screen on dash goes blank.I reconnect and 'no disk detected' reappears. When I try to eject.nothing. I can't even feel the thing trying to eject anything so I try to insert a CD manually.(it said 'no disk detected').but I can't get a CD to go in smoothly. It does not try to accept the disk or anything.just silence and I don't want to force the CD in so it seems to me that there is a disk inside.I just can't get it out to check. So could someone please check the behavior of the eject button on the unit under the passenger seat?

Does the disk come out when the button is slid over? How about the behavior when reinserting a disk? The fact that the screen went out when I pulled the plugs on the rear of this unit make me think it is working.at least to some degree. Finally if this NAV ECU is busted does anyone know if this is covered under a Toyota certified pre-owned warranty program. The truck is a 2002 UZJ-100 with 68,000 miles and I have performed all maintenance myself since the purchase in 2003 with 27.000 miles. The plan is good through 6 years or 100K but I have a suspicion that this is not covered. Advice is appreciated!
Is the message 'No Disc Detected' even when you have a known good NAV disc in the drive???? Because if so, I had the same problem in my Lexus RX300. It was a DENSO unit. I called the. They quoted me $385 for the repair. Since I work 35 minutes from their location I dropped it off.
I had a twenty minute conversation with Jim, the repair tech (Tom is the other tech, owner I think). Jim's a pretty nice guy. Here is what he told me. There are not a lot of people who repair these because DENSO does not publish any specs or repair manual on their equipment. The 'Audio' guys figured out how to repair them thanks to a local dealer who was desperate to sell a used Lexus that also had a 'No Disc' error. According to Jim, the dealer was going to be charged 4+k by the local Lexus dealer.
This was going to blow any profit for the re-sale. So this dealer was desperate. The 'Audio' store did not yet have a test rig to check out the hardware so the dealer actually loaned them the car for as long as they needed it to troubleshoot the problem. They tracked the problem down to the motor that drives the laser. It's turning out that this is what is wrong with most of the Lexus units they are seeing. This was what was wrong with mine.
I dropped it off on Friday and it was ready on Tuesday. It now works as good as new. He did say that they have no long-term experience on how long the repair will stand-up. The replacement drive motor is a different model than the original but it has a higher spec. So in theory it should last longer than the original. Some additional info: There are several Lexus dealers who are now sending him units to repair for the $385 price and then charging thousands to the customer. F'ing disgraceful if you ask me.

This Lexus Nav problem is a relatively recent but growing phenomenon. They are now getting 1-2 a day for repair. There was another one on the counter when I walked in to drop mine off. Any moving part WILL eventually break. Every time you start your car, these built-in Nav units come on and read the disc (i.e.
The moving parts move). So, if you want to stress your DVD-based NAV system less, only insert the DVD when you are going to use it and eject it after. Of course keeping the disc safe if it's not in the drive is another issue. They were unable to repair a few units because the owner attempted to repair it themselves and ended up damaging it further.
Many thanks to George for posting the. Our 01 Land Cruiser Denso nav unit also failed with 'no disk detected'. Toyota provided their funny replacement quotes and Denso washed their hands of it. We sent ours to these guys at videoservicestop.com and $400 later were back in business. Still high, but not as. Considering they're the only ones I've encountered who are servicing these, the price is fair for now.

I encountered a brief comment on another forum alluding to a 6 year life for these units. Little wonder there were a rash of failures reported in 2007? Do they manufacture these with a little self destruct timer? We did let a Denso rep know that we thought they should amend their contract with Toyota, because as a result of this, we feel it preferable to avoid Denso products.
